About the Author

Gillian Gloyer first attempted – wholly unsuccessfully – to visit Albania in 1981. She finally made it in 1998 and spent most of the next four years living and working there. She travelled the length and breadth of the country for both business and pleasure; she continues to visit the country regularly and retains good contacts there. She speaks the language well and translated the extracts from Albanian authors which feature in the guidebook. She is a keen hill walker and amateur archaeologist.

Great guide book

It was one of the few guide books in Albania. I just returned from this fascinating and beautiful country. The book was very helpful about important cities and things to see. One of the things in the book most helpful to me is it gave me a list of many tour companies that could put a took together private tours. I got quotes from several company and used one of the companies listed in the book Elite Travel. They did an outstanding job. That so much for taking the guess work out of traveling!

Best Albanian Tour Guide Book

Great book. I had the 3rd edition when I went 8 years ago. After reading felt well equipped. Many young natives commented that I know more about Albania and the places to see, and rivers, and history than they did. Looking forward to seeing and doing more, this time with a group of friends and family. I am sure I will feel well equpped with this updated book. I know it has more maps and details than the previous edition.

Precise to the point study guide for the exam

I bought the book as a study guide for the VCA-DCV exam and it helped me pass it on my first attempt. It is broken down into six chapters that cover all the needed information to pass the exam. It also provides access to an online study tool that contains hundreds of questions which are like the ones you should expect on the real exam.
Four stars because I think for such a small book it is too expensive.

VCA-DCV being retired November 30, 2015

Keep in mind that the VCA-DCV is being retired November 30, 2015 and being replaced with the VCA6-DCV. I think this book is based on vSphere 5.5, so it's not going to have the latest/greatest topics for the new cert. However, you will still get a good basis of what vSphere is - you will just have to follow it up with v6 specific items.

This book has excellent exam coverage. The author did a great job explaining the different data center challenges and the solutions provided by VMware. This book define/explains a lot of VMware vocabulary and the underlying virtualization theory. The content does a good job laying the ground work for the VCP-DCV certification.

Love it!

I recently became very interested in horoscopes and purchase a book, "The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need" and I really wanted to look for a more descriptive book in regards to birthdays and horoscopes. I love this book so far. Every single one of my family and friends have a pretty true page about themselves, and I absolutely love reading about them and discovering things about them. I think that if you really want to learn more about the people around you, this is definitely the book to get. Understanding people you come in contact with (bosses, coworkers, etc.) can be really helpful to determining how to react to their behaviors and also how to not get on their bad side! All in all, this book is a great way to start conversations with friends and family and truly understand people! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves astrology (or not!) and be amazed at how scary-true this book can be about you and people around you!

The book has lots of information and has full information on each birthday. It is fun but can also lead to some factual information. Everyone wants to read about their birthday. My friend has the book and I like it so much I ordered one. This is worth ordering in hardback to be used as a reference book.

The worst textbook ever!

I have been using this book for three months now because I am required to. The worst book ever in terms of how things are written down. It has so many typographical errors. And the explanation and examples are minimal for the different statistical tests. The internet and wikipedia explain things better than this book. I didn't buy this book on Amazon, I got it from the university websites. It's a waste of $140-$150 bucks or whatever you paid for it. I cannot use this book without having to google things.

I will probably write more details about the errors and inadequate explanations and provide examples, once I finish my final exam.

She discusses such issues as consumerism (according to Perlstein, 12- to 15-year-olds spend on average $59 a week, not counting money their parents spend on them); romance, which doesn't necessarily imply the couple ever spends time alone together; and the phenomenon of instant messaging-all to give parents of young children an idea of what lies ahead. Parents and teachers cope with the sudden difficulties in communicating with middle-schoolers whose grades often suffer because of distractions posed by vicious gossip, ever-shifting friendships, budding--and sometimes full-blown--sexual interest, and video games and the Internet. In fact, Perlstein cites declining motivation as the foremost complaint about middle-schoolers. All-American School

The WLMS population encompasses every socioeconomic level from subsidized housing residents to doctors, lawyers, scientist (Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab) and Federal Government employees. We have a high percentage of children for whom English is not their native language. There are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Budist and other religions represented. It is America in microcosm. I believe that Ms. Perlstein captured the diversity and richness of WLMS and I'm proud that my two children are receiving their education there.

Not much here, just disappointed

I heartily applaud what the author set out to do, and (as the parent of a 6th grader) I couldn't wait to get my hands on her book. I have to say I was pretty disappointed overall. While the author chooses to focus on 5 middle schoolers, she devotes a disproportionate amount of time to the girls' relationships and problems; by the end of the book I felt I knew much less about the problems facing boys. Why, for instance, does she go into great detail about the bat mitzvah of Elizabeth, but only briefly refer to the wedding of Eric's dad -- an event with equally large impact in his life?
Often she makes recommendations for parents or teachers to follow without citing any reference (other than, presumably, the comments of these admittedly self-centered tweeners). And her style of narrative can be confusing -- characters are brought into the story with little or no introduction, only to disappear and never return.
Having said all that, I still am glad I read the book. I feel I gleaned a few insights (and of course am comforted to know I'm not the only parent wondering where my wonderful child went). However, if you are looking for a more thoroughly researched book with clear suggestions for middle school parents and teachers, I highly recommend "Our Last Best Shot" by Laura Sessions Stepp. She takes a similar approach but, for my money, gets right to the heart of the matter while Perlstein floats on the surface.

I know how it is,

First of all, everyone that says this book isn't accurate is retarded. I go to WSMS and this book is so right it's like it was written by an eighth grader. She does a great job, perhaps you people don't have the insight to realise this book goes deeper. This book even helped me understand myself, I recommend it to girls and boys my age (eighth grade) who are looking to see through the eyes of another. It's hard being who we are, and this kinda makes it easier. :)

About the Author
Erik Angner is Associate Professor of Philosophy, Economics, and Public Policy at George Mason University, US, where he directs the undergraduate Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) Program. As a result of serious mission creep, he holds two PhDs – one in Economics and one in History and Philosophy of Science – both from the University of Pittsburgh. He is the author of the book Hayek and Natural Law (2007) as well as multiple journal articles and book chapters on behavioral and experimental economics, the economics of happiness, and the history, philosophy, and methodology of contemporary economics.
