Don't buy the Kindle edition!!!

Though written in 1987, this book remains relevant for the ESP teacher and/or material designer. The Kindle edition, however, doesn't do the trick. The book has many figures and sample materials which are essential for the comprehension of the text. And it seems that all Amazon did was scan them. We can zoom in, and they'll still be blurred or too small. So if you're interested in ESP, do read this book, just not the Kindle edition.

Practical and Very Readable ESP Book

English for Specific Purposes is one of the older books about ESP and it is one of the better books, too. The author is very good at explaining the integral ESP concepts and theories to show the reader a bigger picture of how ESP began and how it has evolved. This is one of the more helpful and practical ESP books I have read to date.

This was a wonderful book! It's succinct, humorous, and explains the basics of conducting simply but without oversimplifying. I really like that the author delves into the "why" behind the gestures explained. Too many conducting books are one-sided, either focusing on just the musical ideas or just the movements of conducting. This book has a perfect mix of both. It is not an in-depth, super thorough explanation of any one topic but it does a fantastic job of hitting all the main points of conducting. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in conducting, as a beginner, professional, or someone just curious about the topic.

I know nothing about conducting, although, as a musician, I wanted to learn about this art. I bought book based on other reviews, and found those right on. It's clear and concise and easy to read. It flows very nice. The author took the approach, that you don't know a thing about conducting, which is goo. Hence, the title. Many authors write "beginners" books, and seem to think that you have some knowledge about the subject matter. Tis author starts from the very beginning. I highly recommend this book if you're looking to gain an understanding about conducting, or even you are a conductor and want to improve upon your skill

I am an experienced orchestral conductor. I am also an experienced church pipe organist. I wanted to have a refresher outlook especially from an American outlook.

The book is an excellent reference. It is also good for beginners , especially those beginners who think you can just wave your hands to conduct.

About the Author
