Coming from having no experience in the steel industry, this book has been such a great resource for me.This book really helped me build a foundation on the basics that I have been able to apply in my position.

Delivers what it promises. I'm happy.

It's a good book, and a decent value. However, It is definitely written for the novice estimator. I was hoping for something a little bit more advanced, because it spent a lot of time covering things that most people with construction experience will already know. Nonetheless, this book offers some good information and a solid foundation for beginners. Also, I was hoping for some topics on estimating field work, but this book really focused almost exclusively on shop fabrication. All-in-all a worthwhile purchase.

A Must Have For Any Steel Fabricator!

For a longtime this book was needed by the steel fabrication industry! Written so anyone can understand, it is perfect for both entry level and the experienced "Old Hand". I haven't found another book that comes close to this one in breaking down all aspects (e.g. estimating, detailing, project management and more) of steel fabrication. As an owner of a steel fabrication shop, it is my recommendation that this book be in the reference library of every steel fabrication shop!

A secular Jew raised by a single mother in Berkeley, Welch became an outsider in a strange land when in 2002 she moved for graduate school to the heart of the Bible Belt near Jerry Falwell’s Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. She saw everything around her ironically, treated the South “as a joke” and her time there “as a kind of elaborate performance art project.” Then something miraculous happened. The jaded Californian began to like Virginia. She’d arrived to a Virginia on the verge of a demographic shift as a new, progressive population burgeoned. But she also grew to like the Old South—its manners, easygoing nature, and friendliness. She got serious, cast aside her cynicism, and sought to know her evangelical neighbors “as people.” Why did they think as they did? Why were they so determined “to convert non-Christian America?” She went “undercover” to attend Falwell’s church. Excruciating Read

Overall I was glad I read the book but it was an excruciating read with the author providing way too much detail about mundane things. And those metaphors!! just wait until you they start getting thrown at you. After reading the book I think I understand the evangelicals better. The people she dealt with in the church were really good and decent people. I grew up in a Disciples of Christ church and the hymns that moved her were the same ones we sang.

The Western Magical Tradition is riddled through with bible-based patriarchal monotheism. There was a need, therefore, to reverse some of the symbolism. Many of the old rituals and practices, even when dressed up in modern language, are infested with ages old sin, guilt, shame and fear. Ishtar, Babalon, Ashtaroth and Isis are all names for the vastly ancient divine Creatrix, to whom magical rites were dedicated. From a period dating approximately 500-600 BCE, emerging state monotheists began an eight-century long campaign to eliminate all magical practices (and practitioners) from the face of the earth. One has to be able to read things from left to right, from right to left, from front to back, back to front, and sometimes even upside down, in order to get to the truth. It was not a mistake that the Adept is shown hanging upside down in the Tarot Atu The Hanged Man XII. To him, our pentagrams are the right way up. The nature of the forces being worked with is the nature of our own being, which is what we are setting out to investigate.

About the Author
Oliver St. John is the author of twelve books covering Hermetic and Thelemic philosophy, Qabalah, operative magical Theurgy, the Tarot and astrology. He received initial training through a five-year course in Applied Qabalah written by Gareth Knight and W. E. Butler. In 1996 e.v., he forged a magical link with the Law of Thelema, the ancient Egyptian "93" current that was unearthed through the mediumship of Aleister and Rose Crowley. This led to his foundation of the Hermetic college Ordo Astri in 2000 e.v., and his entry into Kenneth Grant's Typhonian Order (formerly Typhonian OTO) in the same year. Over the course of time, Oliver St. John has worked with Mary Long (author and student of Dion Fortune), Gareth Knight, Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki (co-founder of the Servants of the Light Association) and Olivia Robertson (co-founder of the Fellowship of Isis).

About the Author
Somnath Batabyal worked for a decade in journalism, covering crime and criminality, hobnobbing with politicians and policemen, before entering the quieter world of Western academia. His first book, Making News in India: Star News and Star Ananda, was published in 2011. He has also edited a volume, Indian Mass Media and the Politics of Change (2010). Somnath now lives in London where he teaches at the School of Oriental and African Studies. The Price You Pay is his first novel.

racing story of cops and robbers and journalists set in Delhi

[Full disclosure: Somnath is a friend]

The Price You Pay is Somnath Batabyal's first novel, a racing story of cops and robbers and journalists set in Delhi. It never lets up for a second, and despite the confusingly huge array of characters, I was enrapt the entire book. This was mainly due to the strong characters - not often found in books about the press and police.

Our novice journalist and hero, Abhishek, is smart enough to keep just barely ahead of the game, and naive enough to let the reader be him through all the twists and turns. It does feel like everything and the kitchen sink gets thown at him (his career is a shooting star), and if it's a Delhi sink, then you might guess how twisted and graphic that might be.

The city is another fabulous character in the book, and I felt I got a real sense of the ins and outs of the bureaucracy and bravery that's required to survive that mad place. Highly recommended if you feel like a super fun fast gritty blow through contemporary Delhi.
