Not bad at all

I chose this book on a whim and I'm not sorry I did. The story is very engaging, particularly in the beginning. There were a lot of things I liked about this book, but several things that bothered me a little bit. Overall I give it a solid "like".
Pros:
Fantastic premise. I was really, really excited for the first part of this book. I loved the protagonist, Isidora and was thrilled with the possibilities for her character. I was also very excited about the magic described. A new twist on some familiar themes.
Cons:
I think the biggest issue I had was with the pace. It kind of feels like the author either got impatient to move the story along or someone else made that decision. There were several instances where I wasn't sure how I got from point A to point B and actually had to go back to make sure I hadn't skipped a page. Really it boils down to flow. This would have been magnificent if it had been fleshed a little bit more.
The other thing that bothered me...well that had to do with the intimate stuff. It just didn't fit, IMO.
But on the whole I enjoyed the book.

He does not understand many social conventions such as the rules of politeness, and has little ability to interpret other people's emotions... In all, Cooper is not a particularly skilled nonverbal communicator." It then goes on to say Sheldon should read this book, and goes into nonverbal communication. Sheldon is never heard from again.

Am I the only one that doesn't see what the HELL the above has to do with nonverbal communication??? This basically sums up the book in a nutshell. The book is loaded with pop culture references, from Kanye to Tebow to Family Guy. I think they are designed to keep young college students interested in the material by presenting things that are relevant to them. The problem is the book does nothing with the references. It merely throws them out there and yells "Hey I'm cool and hip I know what you kids are all about these days with your dubitystep and your rap videos" but then does absolutely nothing to link this to any of the subject matter. It's the textbook equivalent of a teacher walking into class and saying "Yo Yo kids Jay Z is Dope right! But not as dope as quadratic equations YEAH BOY!!" *cross arms turns cap around*,

Look I dont fault it for doing this, or even doing this so transparently, but for the love of god use the references in a way that makes sense. Where are the examples of sheldon being a poor nonverbal communicator. where are the screencaps of Penny looking visibly disgusted by Sheldon and Sheldon being completely oblivious to her facial expressions.

If youre going to use a gimmick to lure readers, follow through. I think maybe you arrogantly assumed that the target audience for this is so stupid they won't notice references hanging in the air completely unrelated to anything the book. But believe it or not college students are a smart bunch and many of us see through your lazy writing.

One that transcends the color of our skin

When I picked up a copy of this book for one of my graduate courses, I had no idea how much the poetry would impact me; so many of Maya Angelou's poems are inspiring, haunting, beautiful, and decadent. Being that she is African-American and I am white, I wondered what kind of connection there could be. After reading "Sounds Like Pearls" and "Poor Girl", I realized how wrong I was. We share a human connection, one that transcends the color of our skin.
"Poor Girl" hit so close to home because I have been through the wreckage of infidelity. I know what it is like to watch someone you love leave for the other side of the fence.
In the year since his leaving, I have also discovered that my heart is healing and I am happy again. When I read the eight lines of "Sounds Like Pearls", I cried at the realization that I am allowing myself to let go of my heart; that when I am around a certain someone, "Doubt and fear,/ Ungainly things,/ With bushings/ Disappear."
Another poem that touched my funny bone was "The Health-Food Dinner." I laughed out loud and promptly read it to my mother who is a health-food nut. Even she enjoyed the humor and promised she would never make us eat "uncooked kale."
I loved how these different poems could connect to different emotions that each of us feels, from sadness to healing to laughter.
This is a collection of poems that I will pick up and read again and again throughout my life. With each reading, I will connect, through human-ness and emotion, to the words Maya Angelou has written.
I highly recommend this volume of poetry to anyone with emotion and a desire to know them deeper.

Wonderful Book of Poetry

This fantastic book of verse and poetry is a must read. It's filled with golden nuggets. I keep a copy in my car for inspirational reading. One of the most moving poems is "Still I Rise." The words of this poem remind us that the spirit is capable of rising above all odds and obstacles. Allowing for normal reflection of our youth is "Harlem Hopscotch." One cannot help but reflect on the days of sidewalk games, acting cool, and getting to sing and to hop. The poem allows us to recall such fun days. Having intestinal fortitude is shown in "Just Like Job." It reminds us that even though life is a struggle, victory is there when we call upon God our creator. He hears our pleas and attends to our needs. This book is one of encouragement and motivation. As a result, it relaxes the soul. Also check "Trilogy Moments for the Mind, Body and Soul" with its new addition of Epulaeryu poems.

I am a fan of Maya's and I 'm familiar with her words of wisdom. She personifies the black literary scene in poetry. The insight in which Maya as a woman allows you the the reader to feel as the essence of your being is truly wonderful. I am a aspiring poet and one of my favorite pieces is Phenomanal Woman. I love to interpete this poem with advantgarde jazz dance movements, she is a great poet and teacher. This new release is sure to be just as great as her past books of poetry and essay's. The insight into the true black intelligentsia honest, bold and truthful.

Loved this book

Loved this book! Shari goes into depth and explains step by step how to have a success party. I especially love how she simplifies the presentation with the cards and games. This is a MUST read for any newbie to direct sales or network marketing as it gives a great road map and blue print on how to have a successful party.
